The Origins of RagaMuffin Cats |
RagaMuffin cats are believed to have originated from the Ragdoll breed. In the 1960s, a woman named Ann Baker developed the Ragdoll breed in Riverside, California. Baker bred cats that were known for their docile, friendly temperament and their tendency to go limp when held or picked up. These cats were called "Ragdolls" because of their tendency to go limp like a ragdoll when held.
However, there were some disagreements among the Ragdoll breeders, and some breeders decided to break away from the main Ragdoll breed and develop their own breed. This breakaway group of breeders began to breed Ragdolls with other breeds, including Himalayans, Persians, and other long-haired cats. The RagaMuffin breed was officially recognized by the Cat Fanciers' Association (CFA) in 2003, but it wasn't until 2011 that the breed was granted championship status. |
